"Rainy Day Water Play" by Lauren McBride, Frequent Contributor

Rainy Day Water Play
Lauren McBride

soaking drenching downpour dripping
children dancing splashing slipping
laughing playing creekside wading
leafy boatlets floating fading
water rushing pooling gushing
gurgles burbles voices hushing
mindful magic moment keeping
evening nighttime bedtime sleeping

Poet's Notes:  I first learned of the empat perkataan form from an article by Shelly Bryant in August 2016 print edition of Scifaikuest. I have chosen to follow the aabbcc rhyme scheme. I hope to evoke an image of children playing in a creek on a rainy day, perhaps where the water pools, perhaps where it rushes, watching leaf boats fade from view and in the end falling silent just to listen to the music of the water.  My brothers and I spent hours playing in the creek behind our house when we were little. Those memories still bring a smile.
