"Questions" by Lauren McBride

Questions
Lauren McBride

If I could take
an eraser to my life,
I would have
the perfect parents,
perfect children,
perfect spouse.
I would be
the perfect Mom.

But then
would I become
more than I am -
or less, for losing
strength won
through heartaches?

And what if I
accidentally
erased a single
moment of joy?
No possible gain
could justify
such loss.

Poet’s Notes:  If only foresight were 20/20, we could make good decisions all the time and proceed through life with a minimum of regret. As tempting as that sounds, I have to wonder if erasing our mistakes would really make us better people.
