“Guardian Angel” by Lauren McBride, Frequent Contributor

Guardian Angel
Lauren McBride

Psalm 91:11 For He will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways.

Is my mind so mighty,
my subconscious so clever
as to piece together
life’s riddles and warn me
of hidden danger?

So why do I sometimes
ignore this voice of reason
and dismiss it
when inconvenient?

Though reason, sanity,
logic and ego all lie
within my brain,

I have never
seen to its center.
Still, I believe
they are there.
I have never seen
an angel, either.
But when I feel
a sense of doom,
and heed the little
voice within,
I stay safe
and at peace
with my decisions.

Perhaps God,
creator of angels,
instinct, intellect
and intuition,
speaks to me
in many ways.
Who am I
to presume to know
the answer?

Yet of this
I am certain:
I have only to listen
to thrive
in His care.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God.

Poet's Notes: People have instinct, intellect and intuition. But is that all that keeps us safe? This poem comes from my musings on how angels might guard me in all my ways. Perhaps of interest, while the Bible mentions angels many times, it does not specifically mention "guardian angels."
