"Wild Rose" by Bryher, the pen name of Annie Winifred Ellerman (1894 - 1983) was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on August 10, 2013. As a love poem, I doubt that it would have had the desired affect. The lover is compared to a wild rose--not the most original metaphor. Then white moss is used for comparison--not the best choice, I think. Finally, mention is made that the lover chases goats up mountains--again, not the best choice of words. If true, if the subject of the poem were a goat herder, there are so many other pastoral tropes that could have been used. Perhaps this poem is a satire or inside joke?Saturday, August 10, 2013
