What a treat it was to read the offering from Daily Science Fiction of August 16, 2012 "Surrounded by the Mutant Rain Forest" by Bruce Boston, the renowned, multiple award-winning poet and author. A resistance fighter faces a difficult decision when he finds his erstwhile lover fused to a mutant rain forest that threatens to destroy mankind.
According to the author story notes, "the Mutant Rain Forest was first created by Nantucket author Robert Frazier in the mid-1980s." Since then, Mr. Boston has collaborated with Mr. Frazier to create the world of the Mutant Rain Forest.
Mr. Boston's list of publishing credits and impressive awards--the Bram Stoker Award for Poetry, the Pushcart Prize for Fiction, and the Grandmaster Award of the Science Fiction Poetry Association, to name only a few--goes on and on. It was no surprise that he has won so many awards for poetry--"Surrounded by the Mutant Rain Forest" reads like a prose poem.
Be prepared to be transported to and immersed in a living, breathing, horrifying world that you will never forget. And be sure to read the author notes--I have no doubt that you will want to learn where you can find more stories and poems set in the MRF. 7 rocket-dragons (obviously).
